On Sunday 6th September Oxford for Europe is organising a European themed walk in Oxford. This is definitely not a march, but an opportunity to walk round our city with like minded people, reminding ourselves of Oxford’s many links with Europe, past and present. It will start and end at a Danish café, Ole & Steen, near Leiden Square in the Westgate Centre, setting off at 2pm.
The square commemorates Oxford’s oldest town twinning link, established in 1946 following the Second World War. Leiden is home to the oldest university in The Netherlands, and since 1946 approximately 10,000 people from both cities have taken part in joint cultural, sporting and social activities.
The walk will continue to Bonn Square, (another European twin city) and on through Oxford, noting points of interest, as far as St Clement’s to look at the memorial to those who died fighting fascism in the Spanish civil war, and returning to the café for refreshments.
The walk will be about 3 miles in total and is pram and wheelchair accessible.
